About the team:
We have created a new Distribution and Credit Solutions unit combining parts of our Investment Banking and Global Markets divisions. This unit combines capabilities in the credit space being integrated in Credit Chains working closely with Origination and Credit Portfolio Management to de-risk the bank in primary (Syndication) and secondary (Trading) while pursuing Fund Financing and Securitisation activities for our clients leveraging a unified Credit Sales team.
Within this new unit our Flow Syndicate team, where this position sits, oversees the syndication of liquid assets regardless of format:
- Capital Markets products for public sector entities, financial institutions and corporates
- Loans for corporates and acquisition financing regardless of level of leverage.
The team works closely with our various lending teams to generate new business ideas and define the structure of deals as well directly pitching to issuers and ensuring close alignment to with investors to be able to recommend best the best format for issuance.
This all forms part of our strategy to develop an originate to distribute model across our lending activities to maximise the utilisation of our balance sheet and improve our overall credit offering.
Summary of Key Purposes of the Role:Become the leader for our Emerging Markets Syndications trading operations by working closely with internal origination teams, providing insight on both investor and issuer sentiment to enable effective deal structuring and then executing these trades.
Responsibilities:To effectively address clients' borrowing needs in debt capital markets by being involved in the pricing and syndication strategy for all relevant transactions, in case of unsold position devise a hedging strategy and execute it in accordance to the desk hedging procedure - This involves a thorough analysis of market conditions in conjunction with appraising credit quality to provide the best advice to sovereign, corporate and financial institution clients in the CEEMEA, LATAM & ASIAPAC (lead on €, support on US$) regions in terms of pricing, size, currency, structure, marketing and distribution strategies for potential new issuance from clients in emerging market sectors to maximize market reception.
To supervise, monitor and manage the effective and responsible execution of bond mandates (including close co-operation with distribution teams). The primary duty of care of syndicate is to the borrower, yet the transactor should make sure that investors are treated fairly in this process - The distribution strategy agreed with the issuer (types of investors and geographical zone) should be executed by engaging with the relevant sales force. All transactions need to be executed in a manner compliant with ICMA/FMSB principles. Additionally, SG internal policies should be respected at all times and any breach escalated to management/compliance.
To develop and maintain a track record of winning and executing bond mandates - SG has developed a solid track record in CEEMEA SOV and Emerging Markets over the past few years as a top 10 underwriter. As a consequence, the transactor is expected to deliver first class advisory and execution, to think out of the box and deliver tailor made solutions in order to maintain and indeed improve SG's position in these respective fields.
To contribute to the development of advisory and product offering in line with Bank strategy and priorities - The transactor should be proactive generating ideas to help DCM win business. This includes keeping himself up to date with regulatory, tax, market changes which can provide business opportunities (e.g. hybrids). The manager should use the balance sheet wisely based on a risk/reward analysis having established a worst-case scenario for any firm underwriting and always respecting relevant regulation.
To contribute to the development of the client base in line with Bank strategy and priorities - Transactor to take on responsibility to develop trusted and lasting relationships with issuers via regular update calls and pitches, whilst being mindful of travel expenses. He should also be involved in a regular manner in issuer's calls.
To represent the team in internal dialogues with colleagues, notably regional/product heads in DCM and bankers - The transactor will participate in morning meetings and in weekly asset class meetings. He should also make himself available to debrief relevant transactions with DCM teams and issuer clients.
Profile required PROFILE REQUIRED - Strong knowledge of financial analysis including pricing dynamics, relative value analysis, hedging strategies etc.
- Highly developed analytical, numerical and IT skills
- Strong background in either DCM, Syndications or Credit Trading
- Knowledge of / experience in Emerging Markets, across Europe, Africa and Latin America
- Strong communicator - able to establish rapport with a wide range of people and build meaningful working relationships
- Capacity to understand and manage risks and act responsibly within Banks guidelines and wider regulations
