Here at The Watercress Line, we are looking for a Campaign Comms and Events Officer to join our team based across 4 stations, Alton to Alresford, with a base in Alresford. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £28,000 - £32,000 per annum plus benefits!

The Watercress Line is a heritage railway preserving the skills of operating and maintaining a steam railway and its fleet, operated by award-winning volunteers, and supported by paid staff; delighting visitors along ten miles of beautiful Hampshire countryside for the last 50 years.

About the Campaign Comms and Events Officer role:

We are now looking to recruit a Campaign Comms and Events Officer.  In this new role, you will deliver the objectives and support the development of the fundraising strategy. We are looking for a friendly, organised, patient, collaborative individual who has a passion for making a difference in an exciting and varied role.   Working as part of a small paid team and a large, dedicated volunteer base, you will have an eye for detail and a flair for getting the best out of people. 

You will be working directly with the CEO and will be at the coalface as we build a fundraising team and make great things happen.  You will have the opportunity to learn and develop through the role. 

Working hours: 40 hours per week (with 30 minutes paid break). On site working with some home working as appropriate. 5 days over 7 with some weekend, evening and holiday working.

Key responsibilities as a Campaign Comms and Events Officerr:

  • Managing the solicitation of the public including but not limited to tap to donate, donation envelopes on trains and volunteer event stands, creating banners and print material
  • Reviewing and monitoring all communications to ensure that the charity status of the organisation is constantly referenced
  • Managing website donation asks and appropriate web pages. 
  • Generating content and create posts for social media
  • Promoting community fundraising events across all channels
  • Event Management – creating and managing events, assembling guest lists, organising venues, catering and logistics
  • Recruiting, training and development of the volunteer team
  • Being responsible for the Database Management
  • Reporting and budget management

Skills and experience required as our Campaign Comms and Events Officer:

  • Some experience of being a volunteer
  • Experience of managing small events
  • Fundraising experience within a cultural/heritage environment would be advantageous
  • Ability to understand the different communications channels appropriate to diverse audiences
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to write engaging copy
  • Ability to manage information, keeping detailed records and making connections across information sources
  • A passion for heritage/culture/local area or engineering
  • Experienced at utilising social media channels, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • A knowledge of the railway sector would be advantageous
