Avencia consulting are partnered with a global insurer who are looking to recruit a Captive Services Team Leader for their London office. This is a newly created role working closely alongside the Captive Manager and managing a team of Underwriting Technicians.

The role

To ensure the efficient and effective servicing of Captive Accounts by the team you are responsible for, on behalf of the company Global Network, UK and Ireland Branch. This includes acting within agreed operational and underwriting authorities and data quality standards, both internal and external. Liaising with servicing offices of the company Global Network to understand how features of their markets limit or extend the scope of the implementation of the programmes, to learn and disseminate regulatory issues, and facilitate communication and service delivery.

Supporting the Captive Manager to deliver on the service proposition provided to Captive clients throughout the value chain

Key accountabilities

  • Responsible for supporting the implementation of Captive Programmes, liaising with all servicing offices of the Global Network and / or the regional hubs
  • Supporting the Captive Manager to deliver on the service proposition provided to Captive clients throughout the value chain.
  • Identifying improvement opportunities and building solutions to address these.
  • Ensure that all Policies are processed in accordance to a service standard that provides effective client servicing
  • Responsible for data quality and integrity of underwriting and operations data
  • Continuously build strong relationship with internal and external stakeholders
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders to enhance communication, collaboration, knowledge sharing and develop mutually beneficial solutions to the servicing of business
  • Actively participate in Client Meetings where necessary
  • Be an active advocate for change and improvement in operations to help support future operational needs
  • Work closely with the Captive Manager in supporting the cross department Captive Team.
  • To proactively participate in projects or other initiatives designed to improve the effectiveness or efficiency of the department and UK, IRE Branch and challenge the status quo. To be an ambassador for change within the team and organization.
  • To undertake any other tasks as requested by the Head of Client Services and Captive Team Leader.
  • To manage the UK Captive Business, directly responsible for the Captive Servicing Team made up of Senior Underwriting Technicians, Underwriting Technicians and Assistant Underwriting Technicians
  • To attract and retain talent through a diverse approach to recruitment and talent development, specifically ensuring competitive compensation packages aligning with HR, diversity in recruitment, and ensuring continuous learning is available and encouraged within the team
  • Build a successful & motivated team by ensuring team members are onboarded properly, given appropriate levels of training and development, and opportunities for team building and integration is given to all team members
  • Responsibility for ensuring staff have requisite skills in order to perform their roles and they follow their personal development plan

Skills and experience

  • Minimum 2 years in a people management role having performed line & performance management duties, or at least 3 years in a project environment having led project team members.
  • Good understanding of insurance cover and the terminologies used, across all lines of business
  • Previous experience working with captives or reinsurance is essential
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Strong planning and organisation skills, able to manage own workload and that of the teams as required and be able to effectively delegate to meet service standards
  • Strong risk management skills, experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of operational controls
  • Ability to lead the team through organisational change and understand change management concepts & themes
  • Deadline focused; able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding about underwriting policy construction, able to read underwriting files and understand what data needs to be recorded
  • Strong systems knowledge, particularly experience of using various company bespoke systems to capture and monitor data
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good report writing skills
  • Understand financial impact of technical data processed
  • A Level or equivalent qualifications; CII qualified at diploma level or equivalent experience.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good motivating skills and able to develop employees
  • Good team-building & interpersonal skills
  • Highly numerate
  • Proficient user of Excel & Word
