A great opportunity has arisen within a school in Medway Towns for a Caretaker to initially start on a temporary basis, working full-time hours on a rotating shift pattern, Monday-Friday, all year round.

The shifts are as follows:

  • 07.00-15.00 Week 1
  • 10.00-18.00 Week 2

There may be an opportunity for a permanent position for the successful candidate after a qualifying period.

Main purpose of job

To undertake a range of caretaking duties, including minor repairs and maintenance, to endure the security and good order of premises, including toilet areas.

Duties

  • Ensure the security of buildings and act as principal key holder
  • Report any defects to the Site Manager
  • Be responsible for the efficient operation of the area heating systems, to include making necessary adjustment to ensure a comfortable temperature for staff and public. Keep boiler rooms clean and free from combustible materials.
  • Read meters and log as required
  • Test fire and other alarm systems weekly
  • Undertake simple repairs and minor improvements e.g. changing washers, replacing defective light tubes, basic grounds maintenance, occasional painting and decorating and cleaning
  • Ensure all service points are clean and clear of litter and graffiti internally and externally. Spot clean as necessary throughout the building and ensure toilets are kept in a clean and hygienic condition
  • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment by adhering to all Health & Safety policy guidelines
