A high-level graduate (BSc, MSc) of Chemistry with an interest or experience in synthetic chemistry is urgently required as a Process Chemist for a global company. With (preferably) industrial experience you will embark on activities including lab work (including synthesis and analysis), root cause investigations for product quality concerns, supporting plant trials, analytical evaluation of process changes at manufacturing plants and report writing.
As process chemist you will be involved in process optimisation, manufacturing capacity and flexibility, new product development and cost optimisation. You will also have opportunities to collaborate globally across the other teams e.g Technology, Procurement and Manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the high safety standard of the group within and beyond laboratory work
- Designing, planning and execution of experimental programmes and associated analytical testing with guidance from supervisor
- Operation of a Pilot Plant unit and support process improvements and process safety activities
- Evaluations of new raw materials and component suppliers
- Analysis and insight in support of lab or plant troubleshooting, process optimisation, New Product Development projects and fundamental understanding activities
- Technical recommendations based on interpretation of experimental results/data
- Enhanced fundamental understanding of products/processes
- Documentation of experimental results and learnings through knowledge management
- Understanding of how new technologies and knowledge are translated from lab to commercial operations
- An understanding of project planning and reporting as well as the business context behind new projects
- Enhanced problem solving, collaboration and influencing skills
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:
- BSc or MSc in Chemistry, Process chemistry, Industrial chemistry, Synthetic chemistry or Materials Science or polymer science.
- Good process and chemistry background (preferably), but not exclusively in the synthetic organic and/ or polymer fields).
- Strong technical competencies with an aptitude for practical laboratory and/or pilot plant work and organic synthesis: experience in analytical chemistry techniques would be an advantage
- Diligence to accurately manage test results, technical information, and lab records, combined with the ability to interpret data and make recommendations
- Preferably Experience in an industrial setting - manufacturing or production or pilot plant setting
- Critical thinking with a problem-solving attitude, approaching challenges in a solution-focused way.
- Manufacturing plant experience is desirable but not essential.
