Mediplacements are looking for an experienced band 9 Chief Pharmacist to work at a hospital in Carlisle.

The pay for this position is £60-£73 per hour, and we are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible for an on-going duration.

The Chief Pharmacist is responsible for:

* Controlled Drugs and is the Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations 2013 (SI (2013/373)
* Professional standards for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
* Non-medical Prescribers
* Safe Use of Medical Gases
* Establishment of Trust Formulary
* Medicines Optimisation
* Medicines Governance structures and processes
* Medicines Safety
* Antimicrobial Stewardship
* Pharmacy Green plan
* Radiopharmacy manufacturing
* The strategic leadership, development, and implementation of medicines management & pharmacy services within the Trust

ROLE OF DEPARTMENT
To ensure the safe provision of clinically appropriate, cost-effective, evidence-based pharmaceutical care to patients.

KEY DUTIES
Developing a safe & quality driven excellent clinical service to patients. The post holder will:
* Be accountable (corporate responsibility) for the provision and delivery of pharmacy services across the organisation in accordance with an agreed annual business plan.
* Be responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and implementation of medicines management & pharmacy services within the Trust. This will include associated risk management, achievement of current and future standards for medicines & pharmacy set by regulators & professional bodies, pharmaceutical clinical governance and supporting achievement of the Trust's strategic objectives.
* Be responsible to the Board for medicines management and is accountable for compliance with legislative, governance and operational aspects of pharmacy & medicines management.
* Work collaboratively across the wider Healthcare system to ensure high standards across the whole health economy.
* Provide and develop long term strategic plans for managing medicines and the pharmacy workforce, ensuring services are progressive, responsive, efficient and meet local and national needs. Plans will involve uncertainty and may impact across the whole organisation.
* Provide professional leadership and direct management of human resources within the pharmacy department, ensuring the department maintains statutory compliance with all relevant legislation.
* Ensure the most appropriate best value use of medicines and control of drug expenditure.
* Be responsible for the quality control of all medicines procured and used within the Trust including Medical Gases, Radio-Pharmaceuticals and Radiological Contrast Media.
* Have professional accountability for the Pharmacy Superintendent (Medicines Act 1968 Section 78(3)(b)).
* Manage the Medication Safety Officer (NHSE NHS/PSA/D/2014/005)
* Act as the chair of the Medicines Mangaement Committee.
* Provide effective corporate Trust wide leadership on Safe Use of Medicines, Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs, Professional standards, Non-medical Prescribers, Safe Use of Medical Gases, establishment of Trust Formulary, Medicines Optimisation, Medicines Governance structures and processes, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Green Plan, Radiopharmacy manufacturing.
* Provide expert advice on pharmaceutical matters to the organisation and be accountable to the Trust Senior Team on all medicines management and optimisation issues.
* Hold statutory and ethical responsibility for ensuring safe systems are in operation for the ordering, prescription, dispensing, storage, and administration of medicines
* Provide specialist expertise; and delegated from the Medical Director / Chief Executive, have corporate responsibility across the Trust for all aspects of medicines optimisation including those required by regulators and authoritative bodies such as NICE, GPhC, RPSGB and other performance management arrangements that are applicable.
