We are working with Oldham Council to find a Legal Assistant on a temporary basis. 

Location: Oldham. Working from home with occasional office requirement.
Job Type: Full-time
Hourly rate: £15 per hour
Hours: Full time 37 hours Mon-Fri

We are seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to provide legal and administrative support within our Family team. This role is ideal for someone who is keen to keep up to date with relevant legislation and assist in implementing changes that affect the functions of the Family team, including child protection, adoption, mental health, and school appeals.

Day to Day of the role:

-          Prepare and conduct cases or matters assigned, including drafting documentation and updating Court Bundles.

-          Prepare briefs for Counsel, attend upon Counsel or solicitors at Hearings, and attend Court as necessary.

-          Collect evidence, prepare witness statements, undertake research, and manage progress chasing.

-          Clerk School Exclusions and Admission Appeals, handling all related matters.

-          Manage files appropriately and record work undertaken on the case management system.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

-       Some local government legal childcare support would be advantageous.

-       Experience with computerised software packages.

-       Drafting, negotiating, and influencing skills.

-       Willingness to learn new areas of law and assist on complex legal transactions.

-       Excellent oral and written communication skills.

-       Ability to represent the Council in the Family Court in uncontested and straightforward proceedings.
