Core Purpose
The Cloud Operations Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Technology team taking charge of designing, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and services hosted on public cloud platforms. With a focus on efficiency, reliability, security, and performance, this role is instrumental in managing the clients cloud environments. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Cloud Operations Engineer deploys and operates cloud-based applications and services, striving to optimize costs and automate repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

Public Cloud Infrastructure Management: This involves provisioning, configuring, and maintaining various cloud resources to ensure scalability and reliability.

Monitoring and Performance Optimization: Implementing monitoring solutions to track performance and identify areas for optimization to enhance user experience.

Systems Availability and Reliability: Ensuring high availability and data integrity through proactive monitoring, alerting, backups, and disaster recovery planning.

Incident Management and Troubleshooting: Responding to and resolving incidents promptly, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures.

Security and Compliance: Implementing security best practices, monitoring for vulnerabilities, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Designing and implementing disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in case of disasters or outages.

Automation and Orchestration: Developing automation scripts and tools to streamline operations tasks and ensure consistency using infrastructure as code practices.

Collaboration, Support, and Documentation: Working closely with various teams, providing technical support, and maintaining detailed documentation of cloud infrastructure and processes.

Cost Optimization: Analyzing cloud usage patterns and identifying opportunities for cost optimization while maintaining performance and service levels.

Continuous Improvement: Staying updated with the latest cloud technologies and continuously evaluating and proposing enhancements to existing processes.


Essential Skills

Educational Background: A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience may also be considered.

Cloud Infrastructure Expertise: Strong understanding of cloud-based infrastructure components, services, and networking is essential. Candidates should have proven experience in managing cloud environments, preferably in platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.

Infrastructure Provisioning Tools: Familiarity with infrastructure provisioning tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar is required. Proficiency in these tools will be beneficial for efficiently managing cloud resources.

Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills are crucial for working effectively with cross-functional teams. The ability to convey technical concepts clearly and collaborate with colleagues from various departments is essential for success in this role.

Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities are necessary, along with the capability to work effectively under pressure. Candidates should be adept at troubleshooting complex issues and providing timely resolutions to ensure the smooth operation of cloud environments.


Desirable Skills
  • Microsoft Azure certifications
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Azure Monitor, Dynatrace, Grafana, Elastic).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
