Job Title: Commercial Property Lawyer (Maternity Cover)

Location: Westminster City Council & Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
Contract Type: Full-Time, Fixed-Term (Maternity Cover - Up to 9-12 months)
Working Pattern: Hybrid (Office attendance in line with Council requirements)
Pay: £250 per day
Hours per Week: 36 hours (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

About the Role:

Westminster City Council is looking for a skilled and experienced Commercial Property Lawyer to provide expert legal services during a maternity cover period. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a wide range of commercial property matters, working within a dynamic legal team supporting both Westminster City Council and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

As a key member of the Development and Property Legal Team, you will manage an existing caseload and handle complex property transactions, ensuring compliance with local authority regulations and contributing to high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice on a variety of commercial property transactions in a local government context.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, offering clear, solution-focused guidance to clients across both councils.
  • Manage and develop an existing caseload, taking on new complex commercial property legal matters.
  • Draft, review, and advise on legal implications, decision-making reports, leases, licenses, and other related documents.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the legal service, contributing to cross-disciplinary cases.
  • Ensure adherence to internal processes, including decision-making frameworks, financial procedures, and case management systems.

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified Solicitor or qualified CiLEX Executive.
  • Expertise in advising local authorities on commercial property matters.
  • Proven experience in managing commercial property transactions and navigating local government decision-making.
  • Strong drafting skills, especially for preparing legal implications for council reports.
  • Strong client relationship management and commitment to providing high-quality legal services.
  • A proactive problem-solving mindset and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
