Compliance Officer

Location: Staffordshire

Salary: Up to £50,000 (+ company benefits and bonuses)

Due to expansion and growth of a brand-new team GRG are pleased to be exclusively working to support our client to recruit for a brand new Compliance Officer.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data Protection Compliance Officer to join a dynamic company and support the Group General Counsel and Company Secretary with Group Data Protection requirements and obligations under the GDPR and Data Protection Laws.

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing a data protection framework, whilst also working closely with the group to ensure an effective data protection culture is implemented, along with monitoring and managing the day-to-day data protection compliance needs of the business.

Job Role:

  • Auditing the group companies' compliance with GDPR and Data Protection Regulations.
  • Performing gap analysis following audit, project planning and execution of the project plan, implementing framework.
  • Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring that the standards and controls necessary for compliance with the Data Protection Framework are developed and maintained.
  • Providing advice and guidance to the business on Data Protection requirements and controls.
  • Developing and maintaining a suite of training documents, which can be used to raise awareness across the group.
  • Monitoring and maintaining records of all staff data protection awareness training.
  • Compiling data protection impact assessments and data sharing agreements.
  • Creation of MI reports on group data protection activities.
  • Liaising with the group for data protection due diligence on new third-party suppliers.
  • Logging and assessing reported data breaches in a timely manner, escalating serious breaches as appropriate.
  • Coordinating responses to statutory information requests under the DPA, GDPR and FOIA, ensuring that responses are prepared, comply with legal requirements and are issued within the legal deadlines.
  • Ensuring all new employees are aware of their data protection obligations and have completed training as part of their induction.
  • Enhancing the culture of data protection risk incident reporting and root cause analysis on an ongoing basis within the group.
  • Building strong advisory capability within the legal team with respect to Data Protection

About you:

  • Relevant qualification in information compliance (or working towards).
  • Relevant experience in compliance environment with a strong exposure to data protection matters.
  • Expertise in local data protection laws and practices including an in-depth understanding of GDPR.
  • Understanding of Data Processing Operations.
  • Ability to promote data protection culture within the organisation.
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to locate information from a range of sources.
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive material.
