  • Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 - top of the range will be offered to someone with manufacturing industry experience, AAT qualified and demonstrative costings experience

We are seeking a Costings Assistant to join a growing finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and entering monthly management account journals, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and analysing gross margins and direct costs. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in accounting and experience with Navision and Phocas, as well as advanced Excel skills.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Prepare and enter monthly management account journals for allocated business accounting postings.
  • Reconcile allocated balance sheet accounts.
  • Reconcile gross sales, net sales, and cost from Navision to Phocas on a weekly and month-end basis.
  • Review and report on stock valuation and provisions, including stock loss/obsolescence, stock with negative values, and warehouse-specific issues.
  • Analyse gross margin and associated variances, direct variable costs, direct labour costs, and material variances on a monthly basis.
  • Review weekly PI reports and investigate significant variances.
  • Costing for new products and amendments to existing products using a standard costing model.
  • Upload new products into Navision and ensure accuracy for unblocking and use.
  • Reconcile stocks stated in external warehouses with Navision records and address discrepancies.
  • Lead the checking and updating of standard costs at year-end.
  • Ensure all manufactured and altered products have accurate routings.
  • Maintain complete accuracy of BOMs/routings and standard costs.
  • Review PPV analysis and contribute to year-end audit work.
  • Carry out any reasonable tasks as requested by management.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in costings within manufacturing or production.
  • Experience from a purchasing or planning background will also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Experience with Navision, Phocas, and other relevant accounting software.
  • Advanced level Excel skills.
  • Proficiency in standard costing models and variance analysis.
  • Ability to reconcile complex accounts and have excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
