Data Engineer

Our client is a highly profitable and ambitious financial service business that has grown from scratch to c.£400m annual sales and over 600 head office staff, servicing over £30bn of assets under management and 20% of the UK financial adviser marker in approx. 17 years since inception. Its cutting-edge Technology function and people have grown and progressed with the company, now a team of c.50 developing robust and secure applications used internally and by its B2B and B2C customers throughout the UK. The company is on the next stage of its phenomenal journey and we’re now looking to help further strengthen the team, by appointing a first-rate Data Engineer.

Reporting to the Head of Data, you will play a key team role in building a scalable, reliable and high impact solution which helps the business become more data driven and deliver actionable insight.

Using modern data engineering tools and technologies, your key responsibilities as Data Engineer will include:

  • Evaluating business needs and objectives - working with Data Analysts and other users to understand the needs for data and create effective data workflows
  • Collecting, transforming and maintaining large quantities of data
  • Design, build, support and improve data infrastructure and pipelines for data ingestion, processing and transformation in Azure
  • Improving the scalability, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of data pipelines, monitoring and resolving issues
  • Creating and maintaining data storage solutions - creating and maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) operations
  • Implementing data validation and cleansing procedures to ensure data quality, integrity and dependability
  • Writing great code and focus on database automation

As Data Engineer you’ll offer:

  • Strong experience gained in a Data Engineer role ideally with exposure to Microsoft Azure
  • High standard of education advantageous, perhaps in a Data related subject, together with relevant Microsoft qualifications
  • Familiarity with Data Management and Storage, Data Integration and ETL, Big Data and Analytics - utilising Azure Data Factory, Synapse Data Warehouse and comparable technologies
  • Strong proficiency with SQL, including writing and optimising complex SQL statements
  • Experience building and optimising 'big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets
  • Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such at Git
  • Detail focus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Initiative, adaptability and strong problem-solving skills

Rewards and Benefits:

  • Salary £30,000 to £55,000 + bonus (£6k) + pension + benefits
  • To secure maximum pay/rewards, you must possess all outlined experience, skills, knowledge and qualifications

  • Hours 8.30am - 5.30pm, hol. 22 days + stats, increasing with service
