What You'll Bring:

Day to Day You’ll Be:

  • Responsibility for the management of data assets including data quality and data protection
  • Ensuring the use of data assets adheres to the Data Governance Framework, relevant policies, standards and controls.
  • Serving as a point of escalation for data governance, data management, data quality and data use issues, working closely with stakeholders to improve the value of data assets, while maintaining compliance with regulations.
  • Close collaboration with UK data quality, data owners and stewards defining data quality measures, continuously monitoring data quality and evaluating adherence to policies and standards
  • Management of team to prioritise and deliver strategic initiatives, engage and promote data governance, support incoming queries as well as document and maintain data lineage
  • Develop, refine and promote solutions for data quality management
  • Implement and monitor risk management assessment for team initiatives
  • Team mentoring and professional development
  • Work with strategic data quality supporting other departments with expert data quality knowledge, including supporting with incident identification, analysis and remediation
  • Participate in strategic plan management, aligning the direction of the team to meet long-term plans
  • Proactively engage with internal stakeholders to drive data quality improvements through education and collaboration
  • Working with the data quality teams and the Data Director in the adoption of industry leading data quality measures, with a focus on their definition and promotion

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to manage a team of data quality and governance specialists to meet the data governance and quality requirements of TU UK
  • Requires a broad understanding of data, including operational, commercial and regulatory perspectives
  • Competent in the identification of risks, defining plans to control or remediate risk and continuously measure and reduce data quality risk across data assets
  • Ability to work with a range of stakeholders to ensure data is managed appropriately, and can identify and advocate opportunities for data quality improvement
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a variety of technical and non-technical business stakeholders
  • Ability to articulate a business issue without resorting to technical language
  • Organisation and time management, specifically working to deadlines with multiple deliverables
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Sound understanding and experience of information lifecycle management
  • Assisting the Data Director with the implementation of the enterprise-wide Data Governance Framework, with a focus on measuring and improving data quality, and the protection of personal data.
  • Ensuring clear responsibility for stewardship of data assets.
  • Engaging with a range of stakeholders, ensuring they are adequately supported in their roles as Data Owners, Data Stewards and Data Users.
  • Maintaining the data asset catalogue and data lineage.
  • Facilitating the implementation and communication of data standards.
  • Measuring and monitoring indicators of data lifecycle performance and quality, to ensure compliance with data policies and standards.
  • Reporting on risks, issues and performance to the Data Director and various committees.
  • Monitoring data issues and assisting with investigation, root cause analysis and remediation activities.
  • Reviewing change management activities relating to data use.
  • Reviewing risk assessments relating to data use.
  • Engaging with a range of stakeholders to improve data protection and data governance.

Essential:

This position requires an understanding of data management concepts, including operational, commercial and regulatory perspectives. It requires someone who can work with a range of stakeholders to ensure data is governed appropriately.

  • Ability to manage a network of Data Owners and Data Stewards to meet the data governance and data quality management requirements of TU.
  • Ability to track delivery of data ownership and data quality management tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a variety of technical and non-technical business stakeholders.
