A financial services organisation in Birmingham seek a Data Governance Lead to drive its data governance initiatives and ensure the integrity, quality, and security of its data assets. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to support the company's strategic goals and regulatory requirements.

1 day a week minimum in central Birmingham office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy, including standards and processes.
  • Leadership: Establish and chair a Data Governance Board to oversee data governance activities and promote collaboration.
  • Role Definition: Define and maintain data governance roles and responsibilities, providing guidance and support to ensure effective engagement.
  • Collaboration: Work with business units, IT teams, and other stakeholders to identify critical data elements, set data quality standards, and establish metrics to measure and monitor data quality and integrity.
  • Data Maturity: Assess and support the data maturity of the organization.
  • Data Catalogue: Implement a new data catalogue for improved oversight and understanding.
  • Compliance: Develop and implement data classification and data privacy policies to ensure compliance with regulations such as UK GDPR.
  • Risk Management: Lead initiatives to assess, remediate, and mitigate data risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Best Practices: Provide guidance on data governance best practices, data management principles, and related policies and procedures.
  • Audits: Collaborate with internal audit, compliance, and risk management teams to conduct periodic assessments and audits of data governance controls and processes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in data governance, data management, and data privacy, providing recommendations for improvement and innovation.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in data governance, data management, or related roles, preferably in the financial services industry.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and best practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Experience with data privacy regulations such as GDPR is essential.
  • Professional Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field (Desirable).
  • Skills: Advanced analytical skills, excellent communication, and storytelling abilities, quick learning ability, effective teamwork, strategic thinking, 
  • Experience: Proven track record of data governance implementation within the financial services industry (Desirable) and experience with Data Catalog and Master Data Management tooling (Essential).
