Communication Support Worker

Reed Further Education is on the lookout for a compassionate and skilled Communication Support Worker to join our team in Merseyside for the upcoming academic year. This pivotal role supports deaf students by ensuring they have equal access to education through effective communication with their teachers and peers.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide close support to deaf students in various educational settings, such as colleges, universities, or schools.
  • Employ a range of communication methods tailored to individual learners, including British Sign Language (BSL), clear speech, and notetaking.
  • Adapt your communication style to align with the student’s preferences and needs.
  • Work in partnership with teaching staff to modify learning materials and promote an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Offer support to students during classroom activities, exams, and assessments.
  • Keep precise records of student progress and the interventions provided.
  • Encourage students to advocate for their own needs, fostering independence and self-confidence.
  • Create and maintain a positive and supportive learning atmosphere.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working with students or young adults in educational or support roles.
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) with a minimum qualification of Level 3.
  • A solid understanding of and commitment to safeguarding practices.
  • GCSEs at grades A-C or Level 2 in English and Maths.
  • Possession of an Enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one.
