Our client is an established Crude and Oil Products trading company based in London, with physical assets across Europe. They actively source, refine, market and trade Crude Oil and Oil products, and associated financial derivatives.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Demurrage/Contracts Analyst to join a growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and resolving demurrage claims, ensuring timely and accurate calculation and settlement of demurrage charges, and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders involved.

Alongside your Demurrage duties, the successful candidate will also be responsible for drawing up and sending out Sales Contracts for the firm’s refineries.

This role requires a strong understanding of shipping, logistics, demurrage principles, exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a good understanding of the structure and relevant clauses involved in Sales Contracts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demurrage Calculation and Analysis:

  • Accurately calculate demurrage charges for various shipments.
  • Analyse demurrage data to identify trends and potential areas for cost savings.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual terms and industry regulations.

Claims Management:

  • Review and verify demurrage claims received from Suppliers, Owners, and Receivers.
  • Prepare and submit demurrage claims to Counterparties.
  • Negotiate and resolve disputed claims in a timely and professional manner.

Contract Management:

  • Typing up of Refinery Spot Contracts.
  • Methodical tracking of Contracts to ensure all internal departments have authorised and checked the contracts prior to sending out.
  • Requesting Purchase Contracts from Third parties and ensuring all relevant internal departments have received a copy.
  • Maintaining strong document management practice in the logging of contracts and all related documents and correspondence.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed and organized records of all demurrage claims and settlements.
  • Generate regular reports on demurrage activities and performance metrics.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g., Operations, Finance, Credit) to gather and validate information required for Demurrage calculations/Contracts.
  • Communicate effectively with external parties (e.g., Owners and Third-party companies) to resolve demurrage issues.
  • Conduct regular meetings with stakeholders to discuss demurrage trends and address concerns.
  • Authorising and tracking of Demurrage payments/liaising with Accounts.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in demurrage management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline demurrage-related workflows.
  • Stay updated on industry developments and regulatory changes impacting demurrage practices.

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in demurrage, shipping or logistics
  • Familiarity with shipping documentation and industry regulations
  • Knowledge of international trade and shipping terms (Incoterms)
  • Good knowledge of Charterparties and GT&C’s
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Previous experience in a similar industry or role
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under time pressure
  • Open and trustworthy with strong communication and networking skills
  • Numerate and computer literate.
