Job title: Deputy Manager - Eating Disorder Inpatient Service

Location: Wolverhampton

Salary: £45,000 - £48,000 dependent on experience

Working Hours: 40 hours - Predominantly day shifts but flexibility req to work nights where service needs dictate

About our Client

We are pleased to be working with an innovative and progressive provider of specialist eating disorder services for young people, aged 13-18 years. Their high performing, high tech company uses modern techniques of learning and training through modern interactive teaching and diagnostic methods and adapts a therapeutic approach, underpinned by the STEP framework.

An independent hospital, set within its own beautiful grounds, boasts an extensive refurbishment to provide accommodation and treatment facilities for up to fifteen children and young people. Their CAMHS-ED service dedicates substantial resources to the mental health and wellbeing of some of the most vulnerable children, involving professional collaboration and partnership with local organisations, families, and caregivers

Essential requirements as a Deputy Manager

  • Evidence of other development and/or training which indicates a commitment to continuous development and preparation for management.
  • Able to prioritise workload and manage team capacity according to demand
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with other agencies
  • Evidence of 2 years experience
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to communicate both in writing and orally, complex matters clearly and concisely using appropriate methods to a wide range of people, including staff and users.
  • To demonstrate a flexible approach and attitude, particularly with regard to being able to meet complex and disparate client needs flexibility, while maintaining appropriate standards and boundaries

Overview of Deputy Manager role

You will be providing clinical and managerial leadership to the day-to-day operation of their nursing team. Effectively monitoring workload, allocating duties and ensuring those duties are discharged safely and effectively. You will be confident in supporting the ward manager, by supervising the work of the clinical team and will provide expertise, lead, support and provide guidance on the nursing care provided.

  • Take an active role in ensuring Clinical Governance is embedded on site and that lessons learned are shared and understood by the nursing team.
  • To undertake and supervise clinical audits as allocated reporting findings into Clinical Governance Meetings.
  • To take an active approach in ensuring the Regulatory standards are adhered to and lead the nursing team in working towards providing outstanding clinical care.
  • To deputise for the Ward Manager as required.
  • To ensure nursing team meetings are held and feedback shared with the Senior Management Team.
  • To ensure patient voice is heard and engaged in all aspects of the care provided and where appropriate coproduction fostered and developed.
  • To participate in assessment of referrals and discussions about admissions

Clinical responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the clinical service, working closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team.
  • To undertake assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care needs of a specific group of service users.
  • To supervise and manage the daily workload in such a way to maximise efficiency, ensuring that duties are discharged safely and effectively. This includes the processing, evaluation and allocation of referrals as appropriate to the team's function, and an efficient caseload management system.
  • To be available to nursing staff for advice, guidance and support in the discharge of their duties, ensuring the team works within the policies of the company.
  • To ensure that care planning is person centred and reflects service user needs and caters for risks associated with children and young people with eating disorders and complex needs.
  • To ensure care review meetings are well organised and have all the information they require from the nursing team

Quality / Governance responsibilities

  • Ensure that the delivery of care to clients/services users meets the standards required by regulating bodies, for example CQC, NMC.
  • To contribute to the monitoring the implementation of organisational policies, procedures and clinical guidelines and ensures compliance of self and others.
  • Lead, promote and practice the highest standards of prevention and control of infection as per policy and ensures compliance of others.
  • Continually monitor standards of clinical care and lead and facilitate improvements of care, through benchmarking, audit and research as directed by the Senior Management Team.
  • Lead and ensure the promotion of patient dignity, equality, diversity and human rights.
  • Always ensures self and all staff practice in accordance with their Code of Professional Conduct and raise any concerns with the Deputy Hospital Director.
  • Maintains own and ensures others maintain professional boundaries and appropriately declare any conflicts of interest.
  • All records that the role is responsible for or modifies must be kept up to date and maintained in an accurate and diligent manner.
