Design Engineer - Autodesk & Steel & Timber
Job Title: Design Engineer
Location: Tockwith - York
As a member of the Design & Drafting department, the role will be primarily focused on the design and engineering of projects spanning the architectural, construction, exhibition, and live event sectors. Whilst experience within these fields would be a distinct advantage, consideration will be given to candidates with exceptional skillsets from other sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
• Produce drawings that are suitable for manufacturing and installation purposes.
• Provide advanced design solutions on projects.
• Produce 3D models using Autodesk Inventor.
• Check drawings by others, ensuring their fitness for purpose.
• Act as drafting lead on single and multi-disciplined projects as and when required.
• Liaise with other members of the project team to achieve a coordinated engineering solution that meets the
defined objectives.
• Ensure that quality and consistency of output (drawings, models etc.) is always maintained.
• Assist in the development of processes to improve efficiency and project delivery.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Provide technical support to the Production Team.
Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL - Qualified in a relevant engineering discipline / or proven industry experience
Knowledge:
ESSENTIAL- Understanding of the design process, and its associated documentation
ESSENTIAL- Extensive knowledge of drafting standards and technical drawing
ESSENTIAL- Extensive knowledge of designing and detailing with timber
ESSENTIAL- Extensive knowledge of designing and detailing structural steel and sheet metal
ESSENTIAL- Knowledge of designing and detailing other(s) (GRP, machined components)
ESSENTIAL- Understanding of joinery and associated manufacturing processes
Personal Attributes:
ESSENTIAL - Positive attitude to work
ESSENTIAL - Highly organised and able to work flexibly, under pressure and to tight deadlines
ESSENTIAL - Drive, enthusiasm and commitment
ESSENTIAL - Willingness to undertake relevant training as appropriate
ESSENTIAL - Enthusiasm to support other areas of the department as required
Skills & Competencies:
ESSENTIAL- Drafting and modelling in Autodesk Inventor or equivalent CAD package (gained in a working environment)
ESSENTIAL- Checking the work of peers (designs, drawings, models etc.)
ESSENTIAL- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
DESIRABLE- Technical drawing to BS 8888 or other professional standards
DESIRABLE- Autodesk Vault, and / or Revit, and / or AutoCAD (gained in a working environment)
Salary:
£30,000 - £40,000 (dependant on experience)
