Summary:

To prepare and cook food to agreed schedules of work for staff, visitors and members of the public as well as preparing special diets when requested.


Role: Diet Chef

Rate: £11.45 per hour

Location: William Harvey Hospital, Kennington Rd, Willesborough, Ashford, TN24 0LZ

Job Type: Part Time, Contractual Role, Initially for 6 months with the possibility of extension

Hours: Part-time, 20 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, 14:00 - 18:00

Start: As soon as complete the documentation

Essential Qualification:

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (Minimum).
  • NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Food production or equivalent.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to instruct other staff.
  • Strong customer care skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Understanding of allergens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare dishes following agreed menus and recipes for retail, functions, and patient feeding operations.
  • Provide friendly, efficient, and courteous service to internal and external customers, ensuring high standards of customer service and maximizing retail sales.
  • Maintain food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene standards, adhering to Health and Safety and Quality protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain food presentation standards in the retail operation.
  • Participate as a full member of the team, supporting and training other staff, participating in team meetings, and covering other team members as needed.
  • Contribute to menu planning and service development within the catering department.
  • Store goods correctly, minimize food wastage, and maintain portion control.
  • Use and maintain kitchen equipment properly, reporting any faults immediately.
  • Undertake ad hoc duties as assigned by the manager and within the scope of skill and capability.
  • Supervise and mentor other staff as required for their development and the effective running of the retail kitchen.
  • Liaise with onsite Dieticians to enhance service delivery.
