Role Overview

Seeking a passionate and dedicated Drama Teacher to join a talented team. The ideal candidate will have a good background in drama education and some experience working with special needs students. You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging and inclusive drama lessons that cater to the diverse needs of our students, fostering their creativity, confidence, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lesson Planning and Delivery: Design and implement creative drama lessons that meet the individual learning needs and IEP goals of each student.

  • Student Engagement: Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to engage students with varying abilities and interests.

  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assess students’ progress regularly, providing feedback and adapting lessons to ensure all students make meaningful progress.

  • Classroom Management: Create a safe, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment conducive to learning and personal development.

  • Collaborative Working: Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and other staff to provide holistic support to students.

  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Organize and lead drama-related extra-curricular activities and school productions, encouraging student participation and showcasing their talents.

  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special needs education and drama teaching.

  • Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral support to students, addressing their emotional and social needs, and promoting their overall well-being.

  • School Community Engagement: Engage with parents, carers, and the wider school community to foster a supportive network for students.

Requirements
  • Qualifications: A degree in Drama, Performing Arts, or a related field, and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience: Previous experience teaching drama to special needs students in a secondary school setting is highly desirable.

  • Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The ability to differentiate instruction and manage classroom behavior effectively.

  • Attributes: A patient, compassionate, and resilient nature with a genuine passion for working with special needs students.
