Our client an very well established road management organisation is now looking for a Duty Controller to join their team.

Job Purpose:

To be responsible for the efficient and safe workings of all traffic flow through the Highway and tunnels on the A13, including the coordination and management of all tunnel safety systems. To monitor traffic flow, liaising with Emergency services, TFL (Transport for London) and other authorities as needed. To record all information/incidents using the IOI system. To ensure detailed communication with the Operations and Maintenance team concerning major incidents and any works orders raised, as required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Traffic Flow Monitoring
  • Ensure safe, effective and efficient ongoing traffic operations
  • Monitor the Tunnel CCTV system
  • Monitor of the Highway to ensure the East India Dock Tunnel and Limehouse Link Tunnel are free from hazards and debris
  • Develop and maintain an expert working knowledge of the tunnel SCADA system (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition); maintain a high level of performance monitoring
  • Coordinate detection, assessment and verification of incidents and emergencies using the TFLPTZ system and the AME cameras
  • Monitor and report any traffic incident occurrence from the AME system OOH
  • Instruct the contractor SICE to download images of incidents as and when required.
  • Ongoing operation and checking of the radio system (Team Simoco)
  • Conduct a regular SCADA system check on bespoke forms.
  • Run the tunnel manning board to determine who is allocated to which tasks and at what times
  • Monitor and record Absence, or any changes to the Callout rota

Work Pattern

You will be required to work an 8-hour shift pattern across 365 days of the year, comprising 5 days on shift with the following 3 days off shift (rest days) then a further 5 days on shift with the following 4 days off shift (rest days) then a further 5 days on shift with the following 3 days off shift (rest days). This is consecutive 25-day rota. Currently the 8-hour shift pattern runs as follows; 5am-1pm; 1pm - 9pm; 9pm-5am Your work rota times will alternate between each of these shift periods every 5-day working shift but will remain the same throughout the duration of each 5-day shift, unless otherwise requested by your Line Manager and mutually agreed with you.
