Job title: Electrical Maintenance Technician
Shift pattern: Days/Afternoon shift working - Monday to Friday (On Call cover on nights and weekends one week in every four)
Location: St Helens, Merseyside
Pay rate: Circa £40,000 per annum (plus shift, disturbance and on call allowances)
The client:
Situated in St Helens, my client is at the forefront in the manufacture and marketing of specialised Glass Cord products. They supply Glass Cord to timing belt manufacturers worldwide, in all the major car-manufacturing countries. Glass Cord is also used in many non-automotive synchronous drive applications; including belts for domestic appliances, industrial machinery, office equipment and power tools.
Main Purpose:
The main purpose of the role includes all aspects of maintenance, repair, modification, calibration, installation and optimisation of plant/machinery throughout the site.
Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- An active involvement in health and safety activities to ensure hazards are identified/eliminated; and highest standards achieved.
- Create, modify and review risk assessments and standard operating procedures in accordance with Group Policy, legislation and industry best practice.
- Diagnose electrical breakdowns to restore equipment; by review of drawings/documentation, repair and/or redesign, in order to avoid or minimise production downtime and losses.
- Carry out preventive maintenance of plant, services, distribution and alarm systems to avoid downtime/losses.
- Electrical works will be completed up to 415V and may include live working.
- Ensure reporting processes are followed (verbal/written) relating to maintenance activity, processing of engineering spare parts and storage records.
- Contribute to a range of continuous improvement activities, including maximising performance of plant, equipment and control systems; driving housekeeping standards (5S), reducing energy consumption and environmental impacts.
Additional responsibilities
- Supervision of trainee/s and contractors;
- Individual and Team based problem solving;
- Project coordination and administration of maintenance systems/drawings.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Successful completion of a time served Electrical engineering apprenticeship
- Qualified to HNC/HND and/or equivalent NVQ in Electrical Engineering
- Ability to work flexibly within engineering/manufacturing teams across all areas of plant to achieve set standards/targets and continuous improvement
- Stringent adherence with safe operating procedures
- Ability to work unsupervised for extended period and capable of identifying, generating and managing own workload
- Effective communication with all members of the department and other areas, in particular, production.
- Willing to be flexible in order to respond to changes in priority or emergency situations and available to work on an "on call" basis during one week in every four weeks
