Estimator

Our client is a well-established regional contractor in the North East, currently seeking an experienced and motivated Estimator to join the team. You will be working on a diverse pipeline of road, paving, and other civil engineering projects across the region. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction processes, costs, and materials, with a proven track record of delivering accurate and competitive estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

• Preparing accurate cost estimates: Analyse project specifications, drawings, and contracts to develop comprehensive estimates for roads, paving, and other civil works.
• Tender preparation and submission: Prepare and submit tenders, ensuring all necessary documentation and pricing strategies are included to secure new business.
• Cost planning and management: Collaborate with project teams to manage cost plans, ensuring budgets are adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.
• Supplier and subcontractor liaison: Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, negotiate pricing, and assess their capabilities to ensure quality and cost efficiency.
• Risk management: Identify potential project risks and assess the financial impact to ensure estimates reflect realistic outcomes.
• Market research: Keep up to date with industry trends, pricing, and materials to provide competitive and informed estimates.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the pre-construction, commercial, and delivery teams to ensure a smooth transition from estimate to execution.
• Reporting and documentation: Provide detailed reports on estimates, including breakdowns of labor, material, and equipment costs, and track actual project costs against the original estimate.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Proven experience as an Estimator in the construction industry, ideally within civil engineering (roads, paving, etc.).
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of current building regulations and industry standards.
• Strong commercial awareness.
