What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Facilities and Support Services Manager, you’ll work across the east of the South Downs portfolio, covering various locations and buildings, including small countryside properties. Frequent travel is required.

This role involves managing a diverse portfolio of properties, each with unique needs. Birling Gap, a fast-paced tourist attraction with over 500k visitors annually, requires quick thinking and calmness under pressure to meet customer needs.

We also manage two small but hugely significant properties:  Alfriston Clergy House is a jewel in our crown. It has been with the National Trust from inception, and you'll play an active role as we develop our plans for the future. Monks House is the 16th-century cottage of Virginia and Leonard Woolf. Full of Bloomsbury treasures, the house reflects the owners and their guests who included T S Eliot and E M Foster.

Saddlescombe Farm, our ancient farm hamlet surrounded by chalk grassland, the oldest part of the present-day farmhouse dates from around 1630 but most of the current farm buildings are Victorian.

What you'll be doing

You’ll manage facilities and maintenance across a group of properties, collaborating with other functional leads and building a volunteer base. You'll also line manage a part-time Facilities Coordinator.

Responsibilities will include managing premises, contractors, equipment, and compliance systems to ensure safe, sustainable, and cost-efficient operations. You'll also handle small projects and promote Health and Safety awareness across your teams, ensuring effective environmental management.

Some weekend and bank holiday work will be required. Please read the full role profile attached to this advert.
