Based in a prime location in Gateshead opposite the Law Courts, a well-respected and established law firm has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Family Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEx).

The firm has an excellent reputation locally with clients and fellow professionals in respect of its family law offering which is predominantly public law (Legal Aid funded). The work is varied, and there is a signifiant amount of Care proceedings within the caseload.

This opportunity is to work alongside a very experienced and well-respected Solicitor (Director) and brings with it first class support by way of a full-time legal secretary to support with your administrative needs, as well as an impressive trainee solicitor to assist you and the Director.

In addition to the immediate support in the Family team, the firm is collegiate culturally, and collaborative in nature and so there is a plethora of peer to peer support in the firm and within the group (the firm has a sister firm in Newcastle) and in the branch office locally.

Other functions such as Marketing, Finance and the Senior Exec team will also work closely with you.

The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years PQE in family law both public law and private law as well as an understanding of Legal Aid. A keen advocate is preferred, so that less complex hearings can be conducted without the need to default to Counsel. Opportunities to develop advocacy skills will be provided. The role also includes the following requirements;

  • To effectively manage a current and mixed caseload of family law files.
  • To work as part of a team with the colleagues in the Family Team.
  • To ensure and maintain excellent file management.

  • To raise your profile and make connections to build powerful networks to feed the firm as well as your own department.
