Robert Half are delighted to partner with a leading scientific organisation in order to appoint their new Finance Assistant to join the finance team. The successful candidate will work with the Finance Manager and Finance Director to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial information, timeliness of reporting and maintenance of the finance system. The role will support across a wide range of activities, assisting in all day-to-day finance operations, month-end management accounting, commercial analysis and reporting. There is study support offered to the successful candidate.

Role Responsibilities

Operational Finance

- Bank reconciliation

- Corporate Credit Card reconciliation

- Checking and processing out of pocket expense claims

- Post purchase invoices & prepare BACS payment runs for approval

- Maintain purchase ledger and issuing vendor statements

- Preparation of journals in Microsoft Dynamics Business Central

- Maintenance of the debtors ledger, credit control and issuing customer statements

- Maintain a positive working relationship with building operational staff

- Preparation of VAT returns

Month End

- Close down the Purchase and Sales ledger in accordance with the timeline

- Complete month end accurately and within the required timetable on a building by building basis, including P&L and balance sheets

- Preparation of accruals/prepayment journals

- Maintain the fixed asset register and prepare the depreciation journals in

Business Central

- Provide insightful variance analysis and commentary

- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet line items

Reporting

- Assist with the preparation of the Board Pack

- Prepare management information packs for distribution internally to department managers

- Develop and create reports using SAP and Excel

- Provide ad-hoc support to the Finance Manager for audit samples

Commercial Finance

- Assisting the Finance Director and Finance Manager as required with ad hoc commercial analysis

- Providing useful insight and analysis on monthly and YTD expenditure to the operations team

Role Requirements

- Preliminary accounting qualification/certificate

- Confident working independently and willing to learn and adapt

- Able to demonstrate an understanding of the commercial business

Technical Skills - Good awareness of accounting concepts and terminology - Trial Balance, General Ledger, Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger and Bank Reconciliations

- Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel

- Experience using financial systems for bookkeeping and reporting (Microsoft Dynamics preferred)

- Strong/Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
