Finance Assistant
Yorkshire Synod of the United Reformed Church

To work as part of the Yorkshire Synod of the United Reformed Church staff team in Morley, West Yorkshire, and to carry out the tasks necessary to maintain the Synod’s system of accounts. To work co-operatively within the Synod staff team, helping others with their tasks and, where possible, covering their duties during absences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting/Bookkeeping using Computerised Systems.
  • Entering all payments and receipts into the relevant cashbook, and balance.
  • Posting all cashbook entries to the relevant ledger, and balance.
  • Check and pay invoices, and other payments, that have been authorised, using cheque or Bank Autopay.
  • Arranging for the banking of cheques received.
  • Maintaining a record of up-to-date bank account balances and arranging for transfers between current and deposit accounts.
  • Reconciliation of bank statements with cashbooks.
  • Preparation of Trial Balances at the end of each month.
  • Preparation of month end reconciliations.
  • Keeping records of petty cash expenditure and post to ledgers.
  • Maintain Autopay records.
  • Arrange for the regular payment of investment income to churches.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly Ministerial Education claims.
  • Providing support for Finance Officer.
