We are seeking a dedicated Finance Officer to join the finance function for an exceptional Independent School in London. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the nominal and purchase ledgers on a day-to-day basis. This all-year position requires occasional Saturday mornings and evenings, offering a competitive salary and a generous benefits package.

Day-to-day elements of the role:
  • Manage the purchase ledger, ensuring prompt processing of invoices and accurate payments.
  • Oversee the nominal ledgers, ensuring correct journal postings, reconciliations, and account maintenance.
  • Conduct the weekly BACS run, verifying authorisation and coding of invoices.
  • Set up and maintain supplier accounts and relationships.
  • Process ancillary payments and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Handle accounting and record-keeping for capital projects, liaising with external project managers to ensure budget accuracy.
  • Process monthly catering journals, including sales from the tuck shop and sixth form café.
  • Support budget holders with their annual budgets.
  • Process staff expenses and assist with the external audit process.
  • Review systems and processes for improvements and support the Head of Finance (HoF) with financial projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality and actively participate in the school community, adhering to policies and procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Of graduate calibre.
  • Part-qualified or working towards ACCA, CIMA, or AAT qualified.
  • Strong financial knowledge, including accounting standards, software, and VAT.
  • Significant experience in bookkeeping/management accounting, setting/adhering to financial controls, and monitoring budgets.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Team player with a positive attitude, able to work to deadlines and under pressure.
  • Flexible, calm, and committed with the ability to organise and prioritise work.
  • Proactive in planning and prioritising work, with an understanding of the importance of confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
