About the Role
Our client, a rapidly expanding and market leading software platform is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to play a key role for this software business as they enter the next stage of growth.
The Financial Controller reports principally to the Finance Director but will also work with the wider management team from time to time. The Financial Controller will have primary responsibility for the day-to-day accounting and finance function, taking ownership of financial reports, budgeting and cashflow control. Our client is looking for an experienced accountant, who is familiar with preparation of monthly consolidated reporting, reporting controls, and business taxation matters. The Financial Controller will be expected to liaise with the Company’s accountants (UK and in their international markets) from time to time and lead / train more junior members of the finance team.
The Financial Controller will be base in our client's Central London office at least 3 days a week.
Main responsibilities
- Managing day to day accounting operations - billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cost accounting.
- Preparing the monthly reporting pack: consolidated P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow.
- Sole responsibility for the management of cashflow and its accuracy.
- Ongoing monitoring of Company’s hypothecated cash vs. client liabilities.
- Completing HMRC filings and returns, including but not limited to VAT and corporation tax (in association with the Company’s accountants as required).
- In conjunction with the Company’s accountants, preparation and filing of year-end statutory accounts.
- Advising on implementation and development of financial controls and reporting tools.
- Working with the engineering and product teams to develop financial reporting and invoicing tools within their software platform.
- Implementing best practice across finance department processes.
- Developing finance policies, internal controls and ensure compliance.
- Supporting the CEO and FD with financial and strategic planning, including fundraising initiatives and M&A.
About you
- ACCA or ACA qualified with a minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience
- Experience within a start-up, scale up, fast growth SME or investor backed business.
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Deep knowledge of accounting software - Xero preferred.
- Strong understanding and implementation of an internal control environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- A strategic mindset, with the ability to think analytically and provide valuable insights to support business growth and expansion initiatives.
- An entrepreneurial outlook.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to multi-task with excellent organisation and planning skills.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Financial modelling experience a plus.
- International experience would be a nice to have but is not critical
