Financial Controller (Remote)

£70k to 90k + benefits

Our client is a pioneering SaaS and consultancy business which has developed a suite of proprietary products deployed at the heart of their global clinical trials client base. With a highly regarded investor on board, they are planning further growth and development and to support this they are seeking to hire a Financial Controller to work closely with the experienced CFO. The role provides the opportunity to join at a time of real value creation and will suit a finance professional looking to make their mark. The role will have overall responsibility for delivering day to day financial reporting, working with the CFO to implement new systems, and supporting international growth, sales, marketing and investor requests. Candidates must be proactive, hands-on, analytical and comfortable working remotely with opportunities to meet up regularly with the CFO and team. The role gives the opportunity to play a part in supporting future fundraises and gain exposure to all functions within the business.

Specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Responsible for financial and performance reporting including the preparation of monthly consolidated management accounts, annual consolidated statutory financial statements, and annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Manage the forecasting process for the Group cash flow projections on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
  • Responsible for ARR reporting (Contracted and Consumed) from the ARR Workbook administered by the Mgt Accountant.
  • In conjunction with CFO, ensure that the current suite of accounting software and associated systems are fit for purpose and optimized, assist CFO with the evaluation & selection of new software systems.
  • Lead on the implementation and configuration of new software systems, and associated integrations with other systems used by Finance and Operations.
  • Responsible for providing financial management information to the directors and departmental managers to aid decision making.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all financial policies, processes and practices are in line with statutory legislation and regulations both nationally and internationally.
  • Responsible for the effective management of the finance department and ensuring optimal communication with external stakeholders.
  • Oversight over the operation of the Expenses System and chart of accounts, reviewing reconciliations and work papers of the Financial Accountant.
  • Review of VAT returns.
  • Support the administration of payroll (out-sourced).
  • Calculate the Sales Commission and Bonuses payable to sales personnel.
  • Preparation of Annual Tax returns and R&D Claims.
  • In conjunction with CFO, ensure that the current suite of accounting software and associated systems are fit for purpose and optimized, assist CFO with the evaluation & selection of new software systems.
  • Lead on the implementation and configuration of new software systems, and associated integrations with other systems used by Finance and Operations.

The Candidate:

  • Qualified Accountant / Qualified Management Accountant (ACA/CIMA).
  • A degree level academic qualification.
  • Advanced level of competence on Excel and database management.
  • Ideally competent in SQL and database management.
  • Ideally, you would have knowledge and use of management and billing systems used in connection with the provision of SaaS Products.
  • Knowledge and use of accounting packages/systems (Xero and Quickbooks financial accounting systems) helpful.
  • Excellent PC skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and by telephone/video calls.
  • Problem solving, Leadership and Management skills.
  • Ability to work from home with occasional team meeting in Cambridge office.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be self-motivated, reliable, analytic, conscientious, enthusiastic, committed, and able to work effectively with colleagues, whilst working remotely.
