We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Finishing Manager to join our skilled team at our Workington Mill. Joining us on a full-time, permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary and become part of our welcoming team.

Holmen Board & Paper is a Swedish company and a member of the Holmen Group. The Workington Mill produces premium paperboard under the brand Incada. Our paperboard is an integral part of the shopping experience for our clients’ customers. Since 2013 we have powered the mill almost entirely by fossil fuel free energy. Our integrated pulp and paperboard mill is located to the west of the beautiful Lake District in the north of England.

About the role:

A vacancy has arisen for a Finishing Manager reporting to the Production Manager Paperboard. 

The successful candidate should have extensive experience of the Finishing processes and leadership/competence skills. The Finishing Manager will have overall management responsibility for both the production area and the Finishing area day team to support the shift organisation working towards the area business plan objectives. 

Our Finishing Manager will:

  • Area health and safety performance and improvement activities.
  • Leading and managing the Finishing day team and daily coordination of the Finishing area activities together with Engineering.
  • Operational performance (KPIs) of the Finishing area.
  • Investigating Finishing OEE losses and assigning actions.
  • Leading area improvement activities (safety, environment, quality, process, productivity, energy efficiency etc.)
  • Investigating Finishing customer complaints together with the technical service team.
  • Leading troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and other problem-solving activities.
  • Area budget control.
  • Variable cost control, stock control, and raw material supply/consumption.
  • Defining the competence requirement and training needs for the Finishing area (day and shift teams) together with Shift Managers and HR. 

What we’re looking for in our Finishing Manager:

  • Degree level education in a relevant discipline or extensive equivalent experience.
  • Appropriate training in Health & Safety (IOSH).
  • Experience in production management on a large-scale industrial site.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Finishing processes and equipment.
  • Proactive approach to Continuous Improvement and LEAN principles.
  • Good knowledge of product quality and customer requirements.
