Firearms Licensing Office Manager
- Annual Salary: £23.40 per hour PAYE
- Location: Winchester
- Job Type: Temporary (6-9 months), Full-time/Part-time

We are seeking a Firearms Licensing Office Manager to support a local police force in managing and overseeing firearms licensing obligations. This role requires a deep understanding of firearms legislation and the ability to manage teams effectively.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Deliver the force’s responsibilities for firearms licensing under the various Firearms Acts (1968 – 1997).
- Make informed recommendations or decisions on revocations and refusals in line with current legislation, case law, and Home Office Guidance.
- Lead, manage, and develop the Operations Manager and their team, ensuring the processing of applications aligns with legislation and Home Office policy.
- Oversee the Suitability Review Team, identifying and mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with firearms surrender requirements.
- Manage performance within the Firearms & Explosives Licensing Department to support departmental and force objectives.
- Provide specialist advice on the legal possession, security, and safe use of firearms, ammunition, and explosives.
- Represent the department in local, regional, and national meetings, collaborating with other agencies to resolve issues and promote effective working relationships.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Educated to QCF Level 6 or equivalent level of experience.
- Proven experience in managing teams, including aspects of performance management, service delivery, and conflict resolution.
- Strong understanding of legal or statutory requirements and procedures.
- Desirable: Experience or knowledge of police organisation/structure and firearms legislation.
