I am working with an exciting Sport Nutritition Manufacturer that are looking to bring a Food Maintenance Engineer to the team.

Food Maintenance Engineer Role Overview

  • To put personal safety and food safety at the heart of everything we do.
  • To work closely with the Senior Food Maintenance Engineer to maintain workplace equipment ensuring a smooth and productive operation (60-40 mechanical to electrical preferred).
  • To ensure safe and efficient operation of machinery in the factory.
  • To provide fault finding and rectification in the event of a machine or equipment breakdown.
  • To work within the agreed parameters, mainly carrying out mechanical work but some basic electrical work may be required, training to be provided on this as necessary.

Competencies and Skills

  • Able to read electrical & mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to logically fault find basic electrical/electronic, mechanical or pneumatic circuits.
  • Competent with three phase 400V mains.
  • Carry out PPMs to a high standard.
  • Basic fabrication skills a plus.

Previous experience with food filling and packing lines, for example:

  • Conveyors.
  • Metal detector/check weighing machines.
  • Blenders/Mixers.
  • Form/fill liquid fillers.
  • Auger type powder conveyors and fillers.

Fabrication experience:

  • Basic welding (TIG).
  • Basic lathe and mill operation advantageous, but not essential.
  • Plastics welding and fabrication.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of 2-3 years relevant experience, preferably from a food manufacturing or pharmaceutical business.

Health and Safety

  • To take responsibility for own safety and that of the team.
  • To follow the Safe Systems of Work to ensure the safe operation of plant and equipment.
  • To minimise obstructions and adhere to a 'clean as you go’ policy.
  • To report all accidents and near misses no matter how trivial.
  • To stop a job if you feel it is unsafe to continue and speak to your Line Manager.

Food Maintenance Engineer Main Duties

  • To complete thescheduled maintenance work, as well as responding to ad-hoc machinery breakdowns.
  • To ensure product quality and food safe standards are met, and issues reported.
  • To maintain a good team spirit and working relationship with work colleagues.
  • To drive line performance on recognised business KPI’s.
  • To operate machinery to agreed parameters.
  • To work to business standard operating procedures.
  • To encourage a team-based approach to identifying issues and problem solving on the line.
  • To maintain a very high level of hygiene and housekeeping standards.
  • To follow all quality systems and procedures to ensure our products meet food safety standards.
  • To report to the production supervisor daily on breakdowns tended to.
  • To help promote a continuous improvement culture by monitoring machinery and providing suggestions and solutions to help improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • To cover on shift repair activities across site as required, working within a range of set parameters, within set guidelines.

Challenges

  • The operation of lines to manufacture customer requirements in line with the production plan.
  • Ensuring the efficiency levels of equipment are met.
  • To react to the demands of a fast-paced working environment with frequent "production plan" changes.
  • To help identify any continuous improvement opportunities relating to manufacturing operations.
  • To use skills and knowledge to provide breakdown assistance while on shift
