Food Technician

Location: Birmingham

Pay rate: £90-95 per day.

Are you a experienced Food Technician seeking a new, exciting opportunity? GSL Education are working with a Secondary school in Birmingham who are recruiting for a Food Technician to join their amazing team in September 2024 on a full-time basis.

The school are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and organised Food Technician, with a real drive to enhance students’ experience of secondary education.  The successful candidate will work in partnership with class teachers to support with resources and learning within the Food Technology Department.

Responsibilities:

  • To prepare food for practical lessons and demonstrations
  • To set up equipment for practical lessons and demonstrations
  • To undertake cleaning of store cupboards, fridges and freezers in food area
  • To do laundry from practical lessons
  • To collate food orders from Departmental Staff and call orders to the supplier
  • To work with students on a one to one basis when requested to do so by Departmental staff.
  • To monitor stock and ensure effective stock rotation, avoiding food waste/ shortage
  • To carry out general administrative tasks relating to the Department
  • To organise and store resources for the Department
  • To carry out minor administration duties e.g. photocopying when no practical lessons.
  • To maintain paperwork relating to aspects of health and safety

Requirements:

Experience working in schools in the UK is essential.

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in Food Technician or similar.
  • Strong technical skills with an understanding of current Technician equipment and health and safety.
  • A genuine passion for education and the ability to inspire young learners.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students, with adherence to all safeguarding protocols and background checks.

Must have:

  • Enhanced DBS Child and Adult Check – Must be on the update service. (We can assist you with a DBS if you do not have one)
  • 2x References are a must in order to clear your file with GSL.
  • Valid right to work for the UK
