Service Care Solutions are recruiting for a Functional Skills Tutor at HMP Thameside on a part-time permanent basis.

Functional Skills Tutor

  • Annual Salary: £30,722.74 to £37,059.78 (pro-rata for part-time)
  • Location: Greenwich (Thamesmead)
  • Job Type: Part-time, Permanent


We are seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to join our educational team within offender learning at HMP Thameside. This role offers the chance to deliver a transformative educational experience, significantly impacting learner's lives and aiding their personal development.
Day-to-day of the role:

  • Deliver inspiring lessons in Functional Skills English or Maths, raising learners' expectations and aspirations.
  • Tailor both accredited and non-accredited programmes to the needs and interests of the learners.
  • Develop personalised learning plans that equip learners with essential skills, knowledge, and behaviours for positive progression.
  • Create an engaging and supportive learning environment that promotes academic and personal growth.
  • Assess learner's progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and guidance.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum Level 2 in Maths and English (GCSE grades 9 to 4, A* to C, or equivalent).
  • Qualification in the specialist subject area of Functional Skills English or Maths.
  • Proven effectiveness in teaching within the subject specialism.
  • Level 5 teaching qualification or equivalent.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
