Position:Goods Inwards Operator

Location:Heysham

The shifts for the role rotate on a weekly basis between…

Monday - Friday

6am - 2pm

2pm - 10pm.

The role

  • Working outside, in all weathers, using Forklift trucks to load/off-load 205ltr drums, pallets and IBCs to/from trailers.
  • Opening and checking drums, pallets and IBC contents are as described on transport documentation and take samples for on-site analysis in liaison with the Goods Inwards Chemists.
  • Updating computer records and liaising regularly with site personnel to update on vehicle status.
  • Ensuring the organisation and compliance of the site drum compounds.
  • Provide cover for holidays where required and provide sickness cover, as necessary and possibly at short notice.
  • Liaise with other members of the shift team and Shift Managers to ensure that information is being communicated effectively.
  • Ensure that non-conforming materials are flagged up and a course of action is decided and that the relevant personnel are informed of the problem.
  • Ensure that equipment issues are reported in a timely fashion and highlight delays in repair etc.
  • Ensure that samples of packaged materials are taken promptly to minimise the potential for demurrage.
  • Ensure that only drums and pallets which are safe for storage are accepted onto site and placed in the appropriate storage areas once accepted and batched appropriately.
  • Must always ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations (i.e. ISO 9002, ISO 14001, BS18001), legislation and procedures relating to Production on the Heysham site.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent time management, reporting and communication skills.
  • A strong commitment to and understanding of environmental and occupational health and safety management systems
Desirable Skills
  • An understanding of IT systems particularly Microsoft operations Word and Excel
  • An understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and an ability to observe the requirements of the Company Safety Policy and other relevant legislation Knowledge.
  • Trained or experienced FLT Driver with licence would be an added advantage.
