Our client, a leading group within the Ipswich area, and one of the largest businesses in the East of England are looking to appoint a Group Data Protection Officer to join their team. Duties:

  • The role is appointed to fulfil the statutory obligation under the General Data Protection Regulation to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO)
  • The Group DPO will be responsible for overseeing the Groups data privacy compliance programme.
  • Reporting into the Group Chief People Officer will provide the Board of Directors and the Risk and Audit Committee with compliance audits and projects progress every quarter
  • Provide advice and inform the Group companies on data protection laws and Group policies
  • Monitor compliance with data protection laws and Group policies
  • Advise on data Protection Privacy Impact Assessments to the Group companies
  • Manage a program of awareness-raising and training to deliver compliance and to foster a data privacy culture within the Group
  • Support on Subject Access Requests for the Group
  • Manage the data incident response and breach notification procedures
  • Be the point of contact with the Group and co-operate with the relevant Data Protection Authorities and to data subjects when exercising their individual rights.

  • Board of Directors, Senior Leadership Teams, and all other colleagues with Group companies
  • Communications and Marketing
  • Third Parties, such as system providers, IT, etc.

Required Person Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Expert knowledge of GDPR and holds a DPO practitioner certificate or equivalent
  • Project management skills with the ability to influence and have impact in a positive manner
  • A background within a legal and compliance environment
  • Able to conduct the role independently and with integrity
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks and projects
  • Good personal communication skills capable of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain a high degree of confidentiality, respect, trust and credibility at all levels.
