An exciting opportunity has arisen for a creative and enthusiastic Head Chef with experience in Rosette-awarded, high-volume restaurants or gastro pubs at The Ship Inn in Elie. This award-winning pub, with rooms, has long been a favourite destination for visitors and locals alike. 

As the recent recipient of the "Pub of the Year" award at the Hospitality Excellence Awards for Scotland, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional service and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests.

The Ship Inn boasts stunning views of the Firth of Forth and offers a 70-cover dining restaurant, pub, beachfront private dining room, and an outdoor beer garden with a bar and BBQ area. With six individually designed bedrooms, five offering breathtaking views of the bay, this is a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced Head Chef.

You'll be a Head Chef who lives and breathes food and drink, knowing what's hot and what's not, but you'll also be a pragmatist who can compromise in order to deliver what our guests want.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You'll be responsible for managing all day-to-day kitchen-related activities for the property, including, but not limited to, menu creation and delivery, wage control, margin control, recruitment, and health and safety
  • You inspire your team to create memorable experiences for all our guests
  • You hold yourself and others to a high level of professionalism and integrity, making key decisions based on what is best for the guest and the business overall
  • You'll report to the General Manager, regularly interacting with the Operations Manager and Owners
  • Maintain our 1AA Rosettes
  • Create, execute, and produce top-notch food while constantly ensuring the highest quality standards in presentation and flavour
  • Ensure statutory compliance in all food-related areas
  • You will keep well-organised store rooms and inventories that allow for smooth-running kitchens
  • Properly and adequately train your team while focusing on maintaining high team morale
  • You will consistently deliver food margins that are in line with budget and will have a thorough understanding of how to cost dishes and manage margins

Required Skills:

  • You will have experience in a large, high-volume restaurant
  • You will be ambitious and want to work for an ambitious company
  • You'll be an absolute stickler for quality
  • Experience in an AA Rosette environment is beneficial but not essential
  • You make people feel good - your team, guests and colleagues alike
  • Methodical and process-driven approach to tasks, but also able to work flexibly and calmly to meet deadlines
  • Ability to take ownership of important issues, solve problems and make effective decisions
  • Ability to work positively and collaboratively to achieve the highest delivery standards at work
