JOB SUMMARY of Head of Children's Residential Services - Head of Care

To fulfil the role of an experienced and competent Head of Residential Services with residential care experience to provide support, leadership, management and support across all our homes. This successful candidate will also fulfil the role of Responsible Individual for all residential provisions. You will be a positive and influential Head of Residential Services who will support the Operations Director in delivering the organisation’s strategy across all residential services. This role requires flexibility, inclusive of hours of work to meet the demands of the role.

This role is suited for a motivated and dedicated professional with experience in managing Ofsted inspections who can help support the homes and school towards obtaining outstanding Ofsted ratings. You will report to the Operations Director. With the direction of the Operations Director, you will also be required to be flexible to evaluate and allocate support, leadership and management focus of specific services, for example, in the absence of the home’s manager or when homes require more support.

As a key member of the Management Team, you will line manage the Registered Managers. You will drive operational managerial leadership and delivery of the highest standard of quality, safety and effectiveness for services, so that these meet and exceed expectations, such as inspection outcomes, quality of service delivered and occupancy.

RESPONSIBILITIES of Head of Children's Residential Services - Head of Care

  • · To take management responsibility of all the Residential Services, with direction from Operations Director.
  • · To fulfil the role of Responsible Individual for all the homes.
  • · To provide strong leadership and direction to support the operations of the homes
  • · To ensure that the strategic mission, values, objectives, and ethos are implemented throughout the services in a timely manner and to budget.
  • · To develop and sustain effective and productive relationship/partnerships with all external agencies and professional bodies.
  • · To ensure that all services are provided to the highest standard and in a manner that promotes a culture of continuous development/improvement and strives to secure best outcomes for all children and young people.
  • · To balance quality care services with commercial realities of a profit-making company.
  • · To ensure each child and young person has the opportunity to attend qualitative education consistent with the requirements of the DfE and each children's home meets the standards and expectations contained in its Statement of Purpose.
  • · To ensure that company policy and procedures are adhered to and that there are systems in place to monitor the administration of each home's affairs and the effective use of resources.
  • · To ensure that each establishment is maintained to a high standard in line with Health and Safety requirements so that staff and young people can live and work in safe and comfortable environments.
  • · To be part of the on-call system so that there is always effective and appropriate response 24/7.
  • · This role requires extensive and updated knowledge of safeguarding and relevant legislation, as the Head of Residential Services will be a key part in the safeguarding of children.
Skills and Experience of Head of Children's Residential Services -Head of Care
  • · Significant experience within leadership roles
  • · A strong background of residential children's home management is essential, preferably with knowledge of Ofsted requirements, working in challenging environments and leading excellence in care.
  • · A sound working knowledge of the statutory requirements associated with the residential care of young people. This will include Children's Homes Regulations, Health and Safety legislation etc.
  • · Proven people management skills within a residential setting, including motivating, directing, delegating
  • · Proven organisational and sound financial management skills.
  • · Experience planning, implementing and reviewing initiatives and actions.
  • · Substantial recent experience of therapeutic care and related models, including ability to reflect on practice and work in partnership with others to deliver therapeutic and pastoral care.
