Our highly successful global law firm client is seeking a Head of Conflicts. Reporting to the Firm's Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), the firm are looking for someone with considerable conflicts and general compliance experience to join their global risk and compliance function them on a permanent basis. .

Duties and responsibilities will include -

Strategy:

  • Creates strategies to resolve the most complex conflicts issues balancing the firm's regulatory obligations with its strategic and commercial goals;
  • Collaborate with the other member firms' Compliance teams (in particular the US) to review and redesign current conflicts processes to achieve a 'follow the sun' approach across the verein;
  • Input into a strategic review of the sector strategies and in time a review of the Conflicts Principles, as determined by the global Head of Compliance in conjunction with the EMEA CCO.

Cross-functional Leadership:

  • Play an active role in the EMEA Heads of leadership group to ensure any new developments which impact the firm are identified and addressed and emerging patterns and issues are managed and/or escalated, as appropriate;
  • Input into the global ways of working;
  • Taking the EMEA lead in building and cementing relationships with colleagues in the other member firms involved in conflicts resolution and terms.
  • Collaborate with the other EMEA Heads to create efficiencies across all workstreams;
  • Advise on wider business acceptance, risk and regulatory issues as and where required;
  • Foster strong working relationships with other internal stakeholders in Business Services

Subject matter expertise:

  • Subject matter expert for complex conflicts and reputational issues
  • Subject matter expert on Secondments with particular focus on conflicts and clients confidentiality
  • Take escalations from R&C Counsel, Senior R&C Lawyers and other team members;
  • Advise on resolution of the most complex matters, take forward to resolution as needed, draft / supervise appeal documents, brief Global Head of Compliance and other stakeholders, attend appeal briefings as needed;
  • Lead on / input into internal investigations which involve a conflicts element;
  • Advise the business in relation to actual / potential own interest conflicts;
  • Act as escalation point on conflicts provisions in bespoke client terms

People:

  • Manage a team of expert Senior R&C Lawyers and Managers;
  • Lead on resourcing and talent acquisition;
  • Develop, delegate and supervise the rollout of conflicts training to the team;

Process:

  • Ensure conflicts and compliance processes are efficient and meet current and future business needs;
  • Ensure a common approach to conflicts management across London, Newcastle, Asia and ME, and work with other regional teams to achieve the longer-term goal of a common approach across all member firms.

The ideal candidate will have a commercial and pragmatic approach, an eye for detail, and strong communication skills. Remuneration: the salary on offer for the role is £150,000 - £182,000 depending on experience, plus full benefits.
