Climate17 is pleased to be working with the largest UK owner/operator of flexible power plants, who since 2017 have become a leading energy company with numerous sites across the UK, covering flexible generation, battery energy storage, solar, hydrogen and stability services.

There is a need to hire an experienced Head of Environmental Compliance to join their team, this is a lead role with responsibility to ensure environmental compliance is adhered to across the portfolio of sites. Whilst working remotely you will be required to travel to sites to maintain UK-ETS permits and procedures for all new and existing sites during all phases of development and operation.

The Role

Would suit a self-starter who is looking for a new challenge in their career, able to juggle multiple projects, whilst maintaining robust environmental management and compliance practices. This role reports directly to the General Counsel, has the support of an Environmental Assistant and can be based anywhere in the UK.
Tasks include:
  • Accountability for managing statutory environmental permit requirements for emissions monitoring and reporting, working closely with key internal stakeholders on all environmental matters
  • Input into the company’s energy portfolio carbon reporting procedures (ESOS, ISO 50001 etc)
  • Develop long-term relationships with environmental regulators and third-party consultants.
  • Be the internal expert on environmental legislation and regulation, and drive environmental awareness throughout the business
  • Act as company representative at workshops, industry forums and working groups.
  • Carry out internal environmental auditing and host regulator audit at sites.
  • Responsible for assessing, updating and responding to changes in environmental legislation.

Requirements
  • A degree in a relevant field and membership of a relevant professional body is required.
  • Proven experience in environmental management and compliance practices.
  • Previously managed environmental permitting, including: MCPD, specific generators, flood risk.
  • Knowledgeable of low carbon technologies and renewable energy technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Can understand and translate technical concepts to a wide audience
  • Travel to sites is a necessity of this role, therefore own transport is essential with occasional overnight stays.
