We are seeking a qualified teacher and experienced manager to take on the role of Head of English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at a leading college in Sutton. The successful candidate will be a specialist in ESOL and have experience with Ofsted, and inspections. This is a managerial position with no teaching responsibilities, overseeing a large department of learners and tutors.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage the planning, development, delivery, and monitoring of the ESOL department, ensuring compliance with funding regulations and college KPIs.
  • Act as a line manager for tutors, assessors, and IQAs, setting performance objectives and conducting reviews.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to build relationships with stakeholders and partners, focusing on income growth for the curriculum areas.
  • Maintain accurate records and data, ensuring timely submissions and compliance with deadlines.
  • Manage departmental budgets, including staffing, in line with KPIs.
  • Work closely with the Director of Curriculum to ensure high quality of provision, retention, and achievement rates.
  • Oversee self-assessment and quality improvement plans, ensuring departments are ‘Inspection Ready’ for the Education Inspection Framework 2019.
  • Conduct audit checks, internal verification, moderation, and reviews to maintain high standards.
  • Integrate Learning Support effectively into courses and manage course examination, assessment, and validation requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified teacher status with managerial experience.
  • Specialist in ESOL 
  • Proven experience with Ofsted inspections and managing compliance with educational frameworks.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a large team of tutors, assessors, and IQAs.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with various departments.
