A Japanese bank is currently recruiting a Head of Japanese Equity Syndicate (Executive Director) to work in their Equity Capital Markets Department in the city of London.
You will be managing and taking overall responsibility for the running of the Japanese equity syndicate team and for the execution of Japanese equity and equity linked transactions.
You will also be supporting the origination of Japanese equity and equity linked transactions.

TYPE: Permanent, full-time
WORKING HOURS: 9:00-17:00 from Monday to Friday
SALARY: around £160k per annum depending on experience (There is a flexibility to negotiate to £200k+ if you have a right experience)
START: ASAP
LOCATION: Central London (Currently hybrid working- It may change depending on the company’s decision.)

Head of Japanese Equity Syndicate Main Responsibilities:

  • To supervise London Equity Capital Markets (ECM) 's syndicate/deal execution process and its origination support tasks including underwriting Equities and Equity-linked products issued by both Japanese and non-Japanese companies which may include (but not limited to)
  • ("Legal documentation") Liaise with the Legal team to ensure finalisation of all offering related documentation (e.g. underwritings agreements, acceptances, POAs)
  • ("TAC"). Present all relevant offerings that are above certain risk limits to the Transaction Approval Committee for underwriting and reputational approval. Includes preparation of all required approval memos or presentations
  • ("Sales Briefing") Brief and provide Equity Sales Team with an overview of each launched in order for them to be fully briefed with the appropriate amount of information for their potential investors. Help organise and seek Equities attendance at analyst briefings and management dry-run presentations
  • ("Road Show Arrangement") Coordinate with Equities and Corporate Access Staff to arrange meetings between Issuers’ and potential investors in the UK and Europe. Liaise with any joint bookrunners to divide investors between the banks. Includes the gathering via Equities of any required pre- and post- meeting feedback from investors
  • ("Bookbuilding") Overseeing the input of indication of interests ("IOI"s) from investors by Equities and managing the orderbook in the Syndicate Manager system during the bookbuilding period
  • ("Pricing & allocation") Review and agree offer price and the number of shares to allocate to each investor who has submitted an IOIs. Joint bookrunner offerings will include deciding allocations with the other banks involved. Provide allocation results to Equities for transmission to the investors
  • ("Trade capture") Enter trade details in the GLOSS system and instruct middle office with the issuer and other counterparties details for the Sales Desk to enter all trades.
  • ("Commissions") Calculate commissions receivable and payable and inform via the GLOSS system to Operations and Accounting teams for receipt and payment (where and how we receive/pay commissions)
  • ("PL Recognition") Submit a fee report/commission details on each transaction to accounting department through the GLOSS system
  • Any other required administrative work

Required skills/abilities:
• Knowledge and understanding of Equity Capital Markets, rules and regulations related to the business and general management issues
• Communication and good relationship building skills
• Able to communicate well at all levels within the organisation
Business level of English


Desired skills/abilities:
• Skills to identify/articulate problems and solve such problems
• Experience of managing and leading a team
• Understanding of Japanese culture and some Japanese skill will be advantageous.
