We are delighted to be working on behalf of a prestigious Prep School for Girls in High Wycombe, seeking a passionate and dynamic Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) to lead the department, specialising in Spanish and French. This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving and supportive school community and inspire a love of languages in girls from Years 3-8.

The successful candidate will take on a leadership role, guiding the MFL department and teaching both languages across all year groups, with a focus on preparing students for Common Entrance (13+) and Scholarship exams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the MFL department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in both Spanish and French
  • Teach Spanish and French across Years 3-8, following the National Curriculum and adapting lessons to meet the diverse needs of all learners
  • Prepare students for Common Entrance (13+) and Scholarship exams, ensuring they achieve excellent outcomes
  • Foster a love of language learning and develop cultural awareness through engaging and creative lessons
  • Develop and maintain schemes of work, assessment strategies, and extracurricular activities related to languages
  • Collaborate with other staff and departments to create a holistic and enriched learning environment
  • Manage and support the professional development of language teaching staff, ensuring ongoing improvements within the department

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in Spanish and French
  • Proven experience teaching Spanish and French to primary or prep school-aged pupils, including preparation for Common Entrance and Scholarship exams
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a small team of language teachers
  • A passion for fostering a positive and engaging environment for learning languages
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Commitment to the pastoral care and well-being of students
