The Head of Nursing and Education will lead and oversee the professional leadership, clinical governance, clinical management, training and development of our nursing teams. The ideal postholder will have in- depth knowledge of mental health clinical practice with an understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983, asamended in 2007. The postholder must have a valid driving license to travel independently across regions in England.

Key Responsibilities include

Leadership:

•Providing leadership and direction to nursing teams.

•Ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality care.

•Working with senior managers on strategic plans.

•Efficient and effective resource management.

•Being part of the on-call rota.

•Fulfilling responsibilities as required by the company.

Mental Health Act Management

•Monitor, review, provide guidance and direction as to the legal status of patients who are subject to the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS - new legislation pending) and ensure that they are detained or treated in accordance with the law and the code of practice in all new and ongoing services in Secure Transport and Complex Care

•Provide guidance and information to support to patients, relatives, carers, and staff on the rights and safeguards of the act, such as consent to treatment, appeals, advocacy, and complaints.

•Liaise with external agencies and professionals, such as Approved Mental Health Professionals to ensure lawful detention and conveyance.

•Maintain accurate and confidential records of the legal status and treatment of patients

•Keep up to date with the changes and developments in the legislation, policy, and practice related to the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS - new legislation pending) and the Code of Practice.

•Participate in training and supervision, and contribute to the development and improvement of the mental health act knowledge and training

Safety and Compliance:

- Overseeing clinical governance and risk management.

•Leading on infection control, safeguarding, reduction of restrictive practices, investigations and incident management.

•Ensuring robust measures for protection of vulnerable individuals and staff.

Training and Development:

•Developing training needs analyses.

•Delivering comprehensive clinical training.

•Mentoring and developing nursing staff.

•Promoting evidence-based practice.

•Facilitating research and development.

Stakeholder Engagement and Patient-Cantered Care:

•Engaging with stakeholders, families, and patients.

•Ensuring patient-centred care.

•Attending MDT meetings where required

•Ensuring cohesive and integrated care strategies.

Policy Development and Strategy:

•Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Health and Social Care Act, etc.).
