Our client, a leading company in the metals industry is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental protection. They are looking for a dedicated HSE Advisor to join their team and play a vital role in protecting employees and those affected by their work.

Job Description:

The HSE Advisor will be a key player in the Health and Safety Team, utilising expert knowledge and experience to manage workplace risks and ensure compliance with current safety standards and legal requirements. The successful candidate will communicate effectively across all levels of the company to deliver health and safety messages and contribute to the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, and strategies to raise or maintain safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Split time equally between office-based duties and on-site reviews, ensuring adherence to risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Develop, review, and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and strategies.
  • Conduct training for new and existing employees, including inductions, fire training, manual handling, abrasive wheel training, and toolbox talks.
  • Oversee training plans and book relevant courses, including combi courses, shot blaster, and saw training.
  • Participate in ISO14001 management systems, writing policies on risk assessments, training, and evacuation procedures.
  • Investigate accidents, review interviews, analyse control reports, and identify trends.
  • Write up accident reports and implement new protective and preventative measures as required by law or to achieve best practices.
  • Spend significant time in the field, engaging with employees, observing work practices, and seeking continuous improvement opportunities.

Experience and Skills:

  • Proven experience in a similar HSE role, ideally with at least 3 years of experience within the manufacturing industry or similar.
  • Experience with management systems to ISO 45001 and 14001 would be advantageous.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation with the ability to apply this knowledge operationally.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, using own initiative as required.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organisational and planning abilities, capable of managing workload for themselves and others.

Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum, diploma preferred.
  • IEMA or other suitable environmental qualification desirable.
  • ISO 45001, 14001, or similar auditing qualification desirable.
