Higher Level Teaching Assistant - English
  • Job Type: Full-time, Term Time Only (Part-time equivalent available)
  • Location: Sackville, West Sussex
  • Salary Range: Grade 6-8 (Pro-rata if part-time)

We are excited to offer the opportunity for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our English department at the start of the Autumn Term 2024 or earlier. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our Accelerated Reader program and support the delivery of English education through intervention and small group teaching. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about literacy and is eager to make a significant impact on our students’ learning journey.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Lead library lessons and play a key role in the Accelerated Reader program.
  • Provide targeted support for students in English, working with individuals or groups across a range of abilities.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver small group intervention sessions, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Mentor key students and research suitable interventions within English to ensure the best possible progress.
  • Liaise with classroom teachers and Curriculum Team Leaders to measure and deliver impact.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, adapting provision as necessary.
  • Support in marking and tracking across the department, including moderation.
  • Engage with professional development opportunities to enhance effectiveness in the role.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • A good level of education, including GCSE grade C or equivalent in Mathematics and English.
  • Additional qualifications in English (A Level/Degree) are desirable.
  • Experience working as an HLTA/teacher of English or in a similar role.
  • Experience working in a secondary school or other educational setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, including confident use of IT packages.
  • Ability to lead small group teaching sessions and plan effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
