Humanities Specialist

Location: Didsbury, Greater Manchester, UK

teach195. are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of Humanities to join a highly regarded Secondary School in Didsbury. As a Teacher of Humanities, you will inspire students to explore and understand the complex world around them through the study of history, geography, and other humanities subjects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and informative lessons across a range of humanities subjects, including history, geography, and social studies.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to engage in critical thinking, discuss diverse perspectives, and develop their understanding of historical and geographical contexts.
  • Introduce students to a variety of historical periods, geographical concepts, and cultural studies, fostering an appreciation for the diversity and complexity of human societies.
  • Utilise a range of teaching methods and resources, including primary and secondary sources, maps, multimedia, and field trips, to provide students with a rich and varied learning experience.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students, providing additional support and extension opportunities as necessary to ensure all learners reach their full potential.
  • Assess student progress through a combination of formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to support their development and achievement in humanities subjects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, resources, and ideas for enhancing the teaching and learning of humanities across the school.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification, specialising in humanities or a related field.
  • Relevant degree in History, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Experience teaching humanities subjects at the secondary level is preferred.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for humanities education.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting empathy, critical thinking, and global awareness.
  • Willingness to contribute to the wider school community through extracurricular activities, trips, and events.
