We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Independent Reviewing Officer to join our dynamic team.

Role Overview

As an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO), you will play a crucial role in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people in Newcastle. You will ensure that their care plans are effectively reviewed and that their voices are heard and acted upon. Your work will directly impact the lives of children and young people, ensuring they receive the support and services they need to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Chairing Reviews: Lead and manage statutory reviews for children in care, ensuring that their care plans are appropriate and in their best interests.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and needs of children and young people, ensuring their voices are central to the planning and review process.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of care plans and the services provided, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practices.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with social workers, carers, families, and other professionals to ensure coordinated and effective care planning.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of reviews and decisions made, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Essential:
    • Qualified Social Worker with a current registration with Social Work England.
    • Extensive experience in children’s social care, particularly in child protection and care planning.
    • Proven ability to chair meetings and reviews effectively.
    • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Desirable:
    • Previous experience as an Independent Reviewing Officer.
    • Advanced training or qualifications in child protection and safeguarding.
