Information and Access Officer
  • Location: Huddersfield, HD1
  • Salary: £12.59 PAYE / £15.41 Umbrella per hour
  • Job Type: Full-time, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm

We are looking for a dedicated Information and Access Officer to provide a welcoming reception and information service, assess enquiries, and deliver assistance to service users, carers, and the public. The role involves identifying social care needs and responding with quality services to promote well-being and safety within the community.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Offer a professional, friendly, and courteous information service across various communication channels.
  • Respond to public enquiries, including those from distressed individuals, with timely and understandable information or referrals.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of information systems and libraries.
  • Make telephone enquiries, arrange visits, and facilitate appointments on behalf of enquirers.
  • Provide up-to-date information on eligibility for services and criteria.
  • Handle complex enquiries concerning eligibility and administrative procedures.
  • Liaise with other services and agencies, advocating on behalf of customers when necessary.
  • Maintain effective customer records and ensure high-risk information is communicated appropriately.
  • Develop positive relationships with community/voluntary organisations and other services.
  • Advise on and assist with form completion, monitor decisions against eligibility, and direct provision of equipment as needed.
  • Promote the Gateway to Care initiative and encourage equal access to services.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Substantial experience in customer service, both face-to-face and over the phone.
  • Familiarity with information retrieval and input across various platforms.
  • Literacy and numeracy skills for form completion, report writing, and information collation.
  • Awareness of equality issues and their impact on service delivery.
  • Knowledge of services provided by local authorities, health authorities, and voluntary organisations.
  • Understanding of confidentiality importance.
  • Problem analysis and solution proposal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software packages.
  • Willingness to undertake further training and development.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
